She?s worked with everyone from The Romantics to the wife of David Bowie ? and now one Detroiter is ready to show off her mad design skills?for a great cause.
With some power tools, some guitar wire and a touch of brilliance, Meridith Lorde is racing against the clock to take fashion to that next level for the first-ever Michigan F.A.S.H. Fest, which happens 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in Shain Park in Birmingham.
Lorde will be there with found and recycled objects to create fashion, much of it with a rocker edge.
Think necklaces made of guitar picks, and melted vinyl records turned into skirts.
?I kind of think maybe I was the Lady Gaga before Lady Gaga was ? I was like let?s glue some tea cups together and we?ll do a little Alice in Wonderland party,? Lorde said.
The model, makeup artist, entertainer and now fashion designer has worked with top artists and when approached to create 10 looks for fashion fest, she was ready to bring all of her creative energies together.
The project had a catch though ? Lorde has to piece?together the 10 designs from recycled items.
Over the past 6 weeks, artists and music industry elite started sending the U of M Dearborn grad all sorts of interesting items. And after hundreds of hours of labor, she says she hopes her message of love for the city of Detroit comes through in her designs.
