MANAKIN-SABOT, Va. (AP) - Defending champion Paul Simson topped the 64 match-play qualifiers Sunday in the USGA Senior Amateur Championship, shooting a 4-under 68 at Kinloch Golf Club.

The 60-year-old Simson, from Raleigh, N.C., had a 5-under 139 total.

Mark Bemowski, from Mukwonago, Wis., had a 72 to finish a stroke back. The 65-year-old Bemowski, the 2004 winner, is trying to match Simson's 2010 feat of winning the USGA Senior Amateur, Canadian Men's Senior Championship and British Seniors Open Amateur in the same year.
