DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Under general direction, this position is responsible for installing, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on a variety of personal computers and peripheral devices.?
• Performs installations, upgrades, and backups of software and hardware applications.?
• Performs routine diagnosis on failed equipment and software and coordinates repairs. Identifies and reports network problems that relate to personal computers and server issues. Interfaces with vendors to resolve hardware/software issues.?
• Sets up and tests personal computer systems, servers, peripherals, and software for Windows environments.?
• Provides general hardware and software support for users, provides user training, and guides users having difficulty with personal computer peripherals or software.?
• Coordinates with vendors to resolve hardware/software issues and may review and recommend new hardware and software.?
• Prepares and maintains electronic and hardcopy reports and logs of daily tasks and projects and equipment inventories.?
• May assist with the Service Desk and provide telephone support or arrange for service of trouble calls to users, may provide user training.?
• Assist with the Desktop Support and Systems teams in an AD infrastructure.?
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.?

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Typically requires an Associate?s degree with an emphasis in Information Technology, or a related discipline, along with two or more years of progressive personal computer technical experience in an Information Technology department. May substitute a certificate in information technology from a recognized organization and equivalent experience in lieu of education.?
• Requires the ability to apply a comprehensive knowledge of department policies and procedures, and a comprehensive understanding of relevant current personal computers, operating systems and associated peripheral equipment.?
• Must demonstrate a complete understanding and knowledge of all versions of Windows OS.?
• Must have experience with managing a Windows environment including applicable tools and technologies within an Enterprise AD infrastructure.?
• Must possess the ability to exercise judgment and take the initiative to rebuild, image, troubleshoot and manage hardware and applications running on Windows including Office applications, e-mail and other critical applications.?
• Must demonstrate a complete understanding and knowledge of networking TCP/IP, DNS and DHCP as it relates to Windows, and application support.?
• Must have ability to identify and resolve a variety of moderately complex and non-routine technical matters, such as addressing virus matters and setting up or troubleshooting unique equipment or desktops per business unit specifications.?
• Must be able prioritize work assignments to achieve results and meet deadlines.?
• Must possess good analytical, verbal and written communication skills to accurately document and report findings, including completion of service tickets.?
• Must demonstrate good interpersonal skills to interface with all levels of employees and a variety of departments and provide excellent customer service.?

Costa Rica is flourishing with a varied wildlife, and when one goes to snorkel or scuba dives in the waters of Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, they might have a chance to encounter Manta rays. They are a type of fish that belong to the family Mobulidae. Their weight can range from 50 to 100 lbs and they can reach a great height of nine meters! Manta rays are harmless to the humans as they do not have a stinger. Their diet consists of filter feeder that includes zoo-planktons such as shrimps, larvae of crabs, fish eggs, and larvae of mollusks. They usually feed in the deeper parts of the ocean. Manta rays can live for a long span of time. The estimated life span is 50 to 100 years. The mating between manta rays is stimulated by a full moon. The male chases the female and within thirty minutes, the rays copulate in the shallow waters. Manta rays have been known to breach while trying to lose their predators, getting rid of the parasites from their bodies or for communication purposes with the other rays. Human beings and sharks are acknowledged as their most dangerous predators. Now considered as an endangered species, manta rays have been given a status of protection. Many countries have banned people from fishing.

Manta Rays in Pacific Coast of Costa Rica

Costa Rica, a Central American country, is famous for its lush landmarks and biological diversity. The Pacific coast of Costa Rica is an oasis for recreational activities, aquatic sports and for nature enthusiasts. The tropic, summer season lasts from December to April and during this time, the waters and beaches of Pacific coast both turn into a booming hotspot among vacationers. The waters are filled with marine creatures. It is very easy to spot a very tall manta ray gracefully swimming about.?Manta Rays are found in warm waters all over the world, from immense oceans and seas to lakes, streams and offshore lagoons. Frogfish, moray eels, white-tipped reef sharks, angel-fish and of course, the magnificent manta rays can be easily viewed while diving.

Numerous schools of Manta Rays are found in?Catalina Islands,?which are a covey of rocky isles situated nearby the Gulf of Papagayo.

Nicoya Peninsula?is present on the southern-most tip of Pacific Coast of Costa Rica and apart from being a heavenly holiday spot; the water of peninsula is flourishing with Manta Rays.?The ocean bordering Montezuma, Santa Teresa and Mal Pais has quite a number of tall manta rays. Other regions like Cabuya and Tambor Bay are also rich with them.

Tortuga Island?is a little island that is accessed by Montezuma and Santa Teresa. The lagoons bordering the island are known to be profuse with manta rays.

Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve Park?is a famous nature reservatory which is a home to plentiful of marine and land creatures including manta rays.

Osa Peninsula?is situated toward the southern part of the Pacific Coast. The tranquil place is temptingly secluded and has incredible scenery, eco-lodges, and a sublime nature reserve park, Cano Island Biological Reserve. The divers are greeted by a beautiful sights of schools of jacks, manta rays,, white-tip sharks and hundreds of other marine creatures

Coco Island?is present in the middle of Pacific Coast. Diving and snorkeling in Coco Island, considered as protected nature reserve, is a wonderful experience. Fighting flares for 5th day in Libyan town

WADI DINAR, Libya (AP) ? Pro-government militias battled fighters in a former stronghold of the late Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi on Sunday, the fifth straight day of clashes that have killed at least 30 people.

The government-supported fighting in Bani Walid, some 140 kilometers (90 miles) southeast of Tripoli, has overlapped with the anniversary of the capture and killing of Gadhafi on Oct. 20, 2011. A year since his death brought an end to Libya's civil war, Bani Walid is the most significant city in the country to still resist the nation's new authorities.

A Bani Walid resident said Sunday by telephone that pro-government militias and fighters in the city were clashing on the outskirts. The resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals, said there were reports of new casualties, but that the fighting was less intense than a day earlier.

In Tripoli, some two hundred protesters muscled their way into the parliament building, demanding the fighting in Bani Walid stop and saying only civilians are getting hurt. A pro-government militiaman near Bani Walid said there were no civilians in the conflict area, and said his forces helped evacuate hundreds of residents a day earlier.

The official LANA news agency said at least 22 pro-government militiamen were killed during clashes Saturday. Pro-government militiamen said most of the casualties came during an ambush by fighters in the besieged city.

The violence Saturday coincided with conflicting reports about whether security forces had arrested Gadhafi's former spokesman, Moussa Ibrahim, in Bani Walid.

The government said its forces had apprehended Ibrahim, but never produced evidence to support its statement. Then an audio recording purportedly by Ibrahim surfaced on the Internet denying that he had been arrested or that he was even in Libya.

The reports of Ibrahim's alleged arrested sparked brief celebrations in the Libyan capital. But in a reflection of the persistent lack of confidence in the new authorities, Libyans quickly began to demand that the government produce evidence ? photographs or video ? to back up their claims.

Violence has flared periodically over the last year in Bani Walid. This round of fighting began when the pro-government Libya Shield militia besieged the town, blaming residents for the death of a well-known anti-Gadhafi rebel. Negotiations to hand over the suspects in the killing had failed.

Pro-government fighters on the road outside of Bani Walid were transporting fleeing civilians and foreign workers from the fighting. Some of the fleeing workers said others were locked up in the city because of the heavy shelling.

In the Wadi Dinar area, about 50 kilometers (30 miles) outside of Bani Walid, one pro-government fighter said civilians in the city are making it harder for his troops to go after fighters loyal to Gadhafi.

"We are doing two jobs. We are rescuing foreign workers, Egyptians and Africans, and putting them on vehicles out of the fighting area, and we are combing the area for armed gunmen," he said speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to reporters.

Another fighter, Nidal, from the Libya Shield, said the fighting over Bani Walid was focused on two fronts but that the fighters in Bani Walid are well armed. He was speaking as clashes continued at the Wadi Dinar gate into the city, saying his force and the Bani Walid fighters were exchanging fire from two hilltops.

"This is going to take more than one day. There is a distance between us," he said.

In Tripoli, about two hundred protesters, mostly from Bani Walid, stormed the parliament building demanding an end to the fight. Pro-government militia fired gunfire in the air to disperse the crowd, but stopped when the crowd refused to go.

"In Bani Walid no one supports Gadhafi," said Um Mohammed, a veiled woman who refused to give her name, using the mother of Mohammed as her identifier instead. "We support this government."

Um Mohammed said her children and husband were in Bani Walid.

"We need protection," she said, blaming fighters from a rival city for taking out revenge on Bani Walid.

American Academy of Pediatrics weighs in for first time on organic foods for children

ScienceDaily (Oct. 22, 2012) ? Parents know it's important for children to eat a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, low-fat dairy products, and whole grains. But it's less clear whether spending the extra money on organic foods will bring a significant benefit to their children's health.

To offer guidance to parents -- and the pediatricians caring for their children's health -- the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has conducted an extensive analysis of scientific evidence surrounding organic produce, dairy products and meat. The conclusion is mixed: While organic foods have the same vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, proteins, lipids and other nutrients as conventional foods, they also have lower pesticide levels, which may be significant for children. Organically raised animals are also less likely to be contaminated with drug-resistant bacteria because organic farming rules prohibit the non-therapeutic use of antibiotics.

However, in the long term, there is currently no direct evidence that consuming an organic diet leads to improved health or lower risk of disease. No large studies in humans have been performed that specifically address this issue.

"What's most important is that children eat a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat or fat-free dairy products, whether those are conventional or organic foods. This type of diet has proven health benefits," said Janet Silverstein, MD, FAAP, a member of the AAP Committee on Nutrition and one of the lead authors of the report. "Many families have a limited food budget, and we do not want families to choose to consume smaller amounts of more expensive organic foods and thus reduce their overall intake of healthy foods like produce."

The AAP report, "Organic Foods: Health and Environmental Advantages and Disadvantages," was released on Oct. 22 at the AAP National Conference & Exhibition in New Orleans. It will be published in the November 2012 issue of Pediatrics (published online Oct. 22). The report outlines the research that has been conducted on organic foods, including convincing evidence of lower exposure to pesticides and less contamination of livestock with drug-resistant bacteria.

"At this point, we simply do not have the scientific evidence to know whether the difference in pesticide levels will impact a person's health over a lifetime, though we do know that children -- especially young children whose brains are developing -- are uniquely vulnerable to chemical exposures," said Joel Forman, MD, FAAP, a member of the AAP Council on Environmental Health and one of the lead authors of the AAP clinical report.

If cost is a factor, families can be selective in choosing organic foods, Dr. Forman said. Some conventionally grown fruits and vegetables tend to have lower pesticide residues. The AAP cites organic shopper's guides like those provided by Consumer Reports and the Environmental Working Group as references for consumers. The AAP found no individual health benefit from purchasing organic milk, but emphasizes that all milk should be pasteurized to reduce the risk of bacterial infections. Raw milk increases the risk of serious infection with bacteria including Salmonella, E. coli, Listeria, Campylobacter and Brucella.

Purchasing meat from organic farms that do not use antibiotics for nontherapeutic uses has the potential to reduce antibiotic resistance in bacteria that infect people. The AAP calls for large, well-designed, prospective cohort studies that directly measure environmental exposures such as estrogen at low levels to understand the impact of hormonal exposure of children through milk and meat.

The AAP report also notes that the motivation to choose organic produce, meat and dairy products may be reasonably based on larger environmental issues, as well as human health impacts like pollution and global climate change.

"Pediatricians want families to have the information they need to make wise food choices," said Dr. Forman. "We hope that additional research will improve our understanding of these issues, including large studies that measure environmental exposures and neurodevelopment."

Addiction to online social gaming has grown into a serious problem among young people, with the numbers seeking medical treatment soaring. Clinics have received calls for help from people saying, "I can't stop playing online games even though I try," and "I can't stop spending all my money on games." One clinic has even set up an outpatient division specializing in online game addiction.

Futoko Shien Center, a Nagoya-based association offering counseling services for truants, said it had received 327 individual requests for consultation for online game addiction from the beginning of this year to July.

Zenkoku Web Counseling Kyogikai, a nationwide organization providing counseling services for Internet-related issues, said it had received about 150 similar requests for counseling over the past three years.

The Consumer Affairs Agency began to regulate online social gaming this May.

Roswell Men?s Gymnastics Team, Justin Ah Chow, 11, has been selected to perform in the Kellogg's Tour of Champions at the Gwinnett Arena on Oct. 27, with such London stars as Gabby Douglas, Aly Raisman and Jordyn Wieber.

One boy and one girl in Greater Atlanta were selected for The Kellogg?s Tour of Champions performance. Ah Chow created a video highlighting his skills and success over seven years of gymnastics training. Ah Chow will be featured throughout the show.

The Kellogg?s Tour of Gymnastics Champions pairs elite gymnastics skill with modern performance art. At the show, members of the 2012 USA Olympic men?s and women?s teams including Jonathan Horton, Jake Dalton, McKayla Maroney, Kayla Ross, Douglas, Raisman and Wieber.

?It?s an honor for Justin to be selected as a gymnast in show for the Kellogg's Tour of Champions. Justin will be performing alongside World Champion gymnasts and USA Olympians, and his dedication to gymnastics and skill will be evident,? said Ben Wood, director of Roswell Men?s Gymnastics Team.

Ten additional Roswell Gymnastics Team gymnasts will be in the opening show for the Kellogg's Tour of Champions.

The renowned Roswell Recreation and Parks Gymnastics Center is housed in the Physical Activity Center (PAC) within the Roswell Area Park. The Roswell Area Park was voted number one in the state of Georgia by the Georgia Parks and Recreation Department for eight years in a row. The gym is well equipped and uses the most professional highest quality equipment, which meets the same standards set forth by the Olympic Committee for use in Olympic competitions.

Freezing eggs for fertility works, caution urged

WASHINGTON (AP) ? New guidelines say freezing human eggs for fertility can work ? but they still urge caution for women hoping the technology will pause a ticking biological clock.

Egg freezing had been labeled experimental, but Friday's guidelines say that's no longer the case. The American Society for Reproductive Medicine cites studies showing younger women are about as likely to get pregnant if they used frozen eggs for their infertility treatment as if they used fresh ones.

The move is expected to help cancer patients preserve their fertility, and to boost donated egg banking. But the group stopped short of endorsing egg freezing solely to defer childbearing, saying it's not clear who's a good candidate as older women don't fare as well.

Key player in Parkinson's disease neuron loss pinpointed

ScienceDaily (Oct. 19, 2012) ? By reprogramming skin cells from Parkinson's disease patients with a known genetic mutation, researchers at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies have identified damage to neural stem cells as a powerful player in the disease. The findings, reported online October 17th in Nature, may lead to new ways to diagnose and treat the disease.

The scientists found that a common mutation to a gene that produce the enzyme LRRK2, which is responsible for both familial and sporadic cases of Parkinson's disease, deforms the membrane surrounding the nucleus of a neural stem cell. Damaging the nuclear architecture leads to destruction of these powerful cells, as well as their decreased ability to spawn functional neurons, such as the ones that respond to dopamine.

The researchers checked their laboratory findings with brain samples from Parkinson's disease patients and found the same nuclear envelope impairment.

"This discovery helps explain how Parkinson's disease, which has been traditionally associated with loss of neurons that produce dopamine and subsequent motor impairment, could lead to locomotor dysfunction and other common non-motor manifestations, such as depression and anxiety," says Juan Carlos Izpisua Belmonte, a professor in Salk's Gene Expression Laboratory, who led the research team. "Similarly, current clinical trials explore the possibility of neural stem cell transplantation to compensate for dopamine deficits. Our work provides the platform for similar trials by using patient-specific corrected cells. It identifies degeneration of the nucleus as a previously unknown player in Parkinson's."

Although the researchers say that they don't yet know whether these nuclear aberrations cause Parkinson's disease or are a consequence of it, they say the discovery could offer clues about potential new therapeutic approaches.

For example, they were able to use targeted gene-editing technologies to correct the mutation in patient's nuclear stem cells. This genetic correction repaired the disorganization of the nuclear envelope, and improved overall survival and functioning of the neural stem cells.

They were also able to chemically inhibit damage to the nucleus, producing the same results seen with genetic correction. "This opens the door for drug treatment of Parkinson's disease patients who have this genetic mutation," says Belmonte.

The new finding may also help clinicians better diagnose this form of Parkinson's disease, he adds. "Due to the striking appearance in patient samples, nuclear deformation parameters could add to the pool of diagnostic features for Parkinson's disease," he says.

The research team, which included scientists from China, Spain, and the University of California, San Diego, and Scripps Research Institute, made their discoveries using human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). These cells are similar to natural stem cells, such as embryonic stem cells, except that they are derived from adult cells. While generation of these cells has raised expectations within the biomedical community due to their transplant potential -- the idea that they could morph into tissue that needs to be replaced -- they also provide exceptional research opportunities, says Belmonte.

"We can model disease using these cells in ways that are not possible using traditional research methods, such as established cell lines, primary cultures and animal models," he says.

In this study, the researchers used skin fibroblast cells taken from Parkinson's disease patients who have the LRRK2 mutation, and they reprogrammed them to iPSC stem cells and developed them into neural stem cells.

Then, by using an approach to model what happens when these neural stem cells aged, they found that older Parkinson disease neural stem cells increasingly displayed deformed nuclear envelopes and nuclear architecture. "This means that, over time, the LRRK2 mutation affects the nucleus of neural stem cells, hampering both their survival and their ability to produce neurons," Belmonte says.

"It is the first time to our knowledge that human neural stem cells have been shown to be affected during Parkinson's pathology due to aberrant LRRK2," he says. "Before development of these reprogramming technologies, studies on human neural stem cells were elusive because they needed to be isolated directly from the brain."

Belmonte speculates that the dysfunctional neural stem cell pools that result from the LRRK2 mutation might contribute to other health issues associated with this form of Parkinson's disease, such as depression, anxiety and the inability to detect smells.

Finally, the study shows that these reprogramming technologies are very useful for modeling disease as well as dysfunction caused by aging, Belmonte says.

Cars pile up as dust storm engulfs northern Oklahoma interstate

TULSA, Okla. (AP) ? A massive dust storm swirling reddish-brown clouds over northern Oklahoma triggered a multi-vehicle accident along a major interstate Thursday, forcing police to shut down part of the heavily traveled roadway amid near blackout conditions.

In a scene reminiscent of the Dust Bowl days, choking dust suspended on strong wind gusts shrouded Interstate 35, which links Dallas and Oklahoma City to Kansas City, Mo. Video from television station helicopters showed the four-lane highway virtually disappearing into billowing dust on the harsh landscape near Blackwell, plus dozens of vehicles scattered in the median and on the shoulders.

"I've never seen anything like this," said Jodi Palmer, a dispatcher with the Kay County Sheriff's Office. "In this area alone, the dirt is blowing because we've been in a drought. I think from the drought everything's so dry and the wind is high."

The highway patrol said the dust storm caused a multi-car accident, and local police said nearly three dozen cars and tractor-trailers were involved. Blackwell Police Chief Fred LeValley said nine people were injured, but there were no fatalities.

State transportation workers were called into to close the highway between U.S. 60 and Oklahoma 11, an 8-mile stretch of the cross-country roadway.

"We have very high winds and blowing dust causing a near blackout condition," Capt. James West of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said Thursday afternoon. He said visibility was less than 10 feet.

The stretch of closed roadway reopened Thursday evening after crews cleaned up debris and waited for winds to die down, Oklahoma Department of Transportation spokesman Cole Hackett said.

The area is just south of the Kansas state line in far northern Oklahoma. Interstate 35 runs from the Mexican border in south Texas to Duluth, Minn.

A red flag fire warning was in place for parts of northern Oklahoma on Thursday, as was a blowing dust advisory.

The National Weather Service forecast for the area said winds would subside to 20 mph or lower overnight but that gusts as high as 28 mph could continue. Calm winds were expected by Friday night.

The area has suffered through an extended drought and many farmers had recently loosened the soil while preparing for the winter wheat season.

"You have the perfect combination of extended drought in that area ... and we have the extremely strong winds," said Gary McManus, the Oklahoma associate state climatologist.

"Also, the timing is bad because a lot of those farm fields are bare. The soil is so dry, it's like powder. Basically what you have is a whole bunch of topsoil waiting for the wind to blow it away. It's no different from the 1930s than it is now."

Steve Austin, a Kay County commissioner, said visibility was terrible.

"It looked like a huge fog was over the city of Ponca City," he said. "We've had dust storms before, but I don't remember anything of this magnitude in years."

Civil trial opens against Britney Spears' parents

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? Britney Spears' former confidante was made a scapegoat for her mental breakdown despite efforts to keep the singer from using drugs, his attorney told a jury Thursday in a case against the pop superstar's parents and conservators.

Attorney Joseph Schleimer told the panel that Sam Lutfi was trying to help the singer but lost control in a series of events that led to her being hospitalized and placed under a court-ordered conservator. Lutfi is also seeking a share of the singer's fortunes, claiming he had an agreement to serve as her manager in exchange for 15 percent of her earnings.

Schleimer conceded the case would be a complicated one. His opening statements included flashing photos of Spears with a shaved head and striking an SUV with an umbrella. He said one of Lutfi's first actions after being hired as manager was having drug-sniffing dogs search the singer's hilltop home.

"My client was made a scapegoat for drug abuse and erratic behavior of Britney Spears," Schleimer told the jury, most of whom knew of the singer but hadn't followed her career or personal troubles.

Schleimer claimed Spears favored amphetamines and that the dogs turned up a substance the Grammy-winner told Lutfi was probably crystal meth.

"He was terrified of being her manager when she overdosed," Schleimer said.

Jurors likely won't hear directly from the singer, who remains under a conservatorship overseen by a judge who has ordered her not to appear for trial or a deposition. Superior Court Judge Susan Bruguera told Schleimer during a break that all the accusations he raised during his opening statement should be supported by evidence that will be presented at trial.

Schleimer said he would prove them through either "testimony or documentary evidence."

Attorneys for Spears' parents and conservators will have their own opportunity to present opening remarks to jurors Friday afternoon when the trial resumes.

Lutfi and Spears' parents, Jamie and Lynne, both sat in the audience as Schleimer made his opening statements to the panel of eight women and four men. Jamie Spears did not look up at the photos of his daughter that Schleimer displayed.

Lutfi is seeking millions of dollars from Spears and her family, claiming her mother's book lied about him drugging and isolating the pop superstar. He is also seeking a portion of the singer's profits, claiming he was a key player in her 2007 album "Blackout" and had the right to serve as her manager for years.

The case is the culmination of years of acrimony between Lutfi and Spears' family and conservators, who successfully obtained a restraining order against him to keep him from contacting the singer or trying to intervene in her life. The order has expired, but conservatorship attorneys are seeking repayment for more than $93,000 in legal fees ? a judgment Lutfi is appealing.

Lutfi sued in February 2009, roughly a year after Spears was hospitalized and placed under the conservatorship to take control of her health and finances. The move by Jamie Spears came after months of erratic behavior by his daughter, including shaving her head, speaking in a British accent and other bizarre incidents that also led to her losing custody of her two sons with ex-husband Kevin Federline.

Lutfi was a constant presence around Spears during the tumultuous period. In his court case he maintains that he was trying to help her, though her parents say Lutfi cut her phone line, hid her cellphones and used the paparazzi as "henchmen."

Schleimer claimed Lutfi befriended the paparazzi so that they would treat Spears with more respect and that he tried to assemble top talent agents to jumpstart her career.

Many of the claims were included in court filings used to obtain the conservatorship, but Lynne Spears included them in her 2008 book "Through the Storm: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World."

Lutfi is suing for libel based on three chapters in the book that describe him as a "general" to the paparazzi and portray him as a man trying to manipulate not only the singer, but her mother.
